SAN
FRANCISCO, Calif. (March 08, 2007)— The Center for Resource Solutions
announced today that Eugene Water & Electric Board’s new Greenpower
program is Green-e certified. Oregon-based Eugene Water & Electric
Board (EWEB) is joining the network of renewable energy providers who
offer products certified by Green-e, the nation’s leading certification
and verification program for renewable energy.
“We
are pleased to have EWEB’s Greenpower program participating in
Green-e and offering a certified renewable energy option to Eugene residents,”
said Alex Pennock, Green-e associate. “EWEB has been investing
in renewables for a long time and has just made it even easier for its
customers to reduce the environmental impact of the electricity they
use.”
The
renewable energy available to consumers through EWEB’s Greenpower
program comes from local resources, such as the Stateline Wind Energy
Center and six solar photovoltaic electric generation facilities in
Eugene, Oregon. By signing up for Greenpower, customers will be supporting
these local resources as well as aiding the development of new resources
to be built in the Northwest. The program was launched on March 1.
”EWEB
has offered a wind-based product since 1999, but a recent jump in participation
has resulted in full subscription,” said Mat Northway, manager
of energy management services. “To meet expanding customer requests and to move into the 21st
century, we’ve developed this new Greenpower product using the
renewable energy certificates from several projects we’ve developed
in recent years,” said Northway. “And because Green-e is
an important way for customers to verify they are making a difference,
we specifically designed EWEB Greenpower to qualify for the certification.”
The
Green-e Renewable Energy Certification Program is the leading renewable
energy certification and verification program in the U.S., with over
200 participating vendors who sold over five million MWhs of renewable
energy in 2005. The program provides independent, third party certification
to ensure certified renewable energy meets strict environmental and
consumer protection standards.
Through the display and recognition of the Green-e logo, the national
symbol for renewable energy excellence, a growing number of consumers
are able to easily identify high quality, certified renewable energy
options, as well as everyday consumer products that are produced by
companies who use renewable energy in their operations.
Providers of Green-e certified renewable energy agree to abide by the
Green-e Code of Conduct, and meet strict Green-e disclosure and truth-in-advertising
requirements. All utilities and marketers offering a Green-e certified
product undergo annual verification to document that the company purchased
or generated enough quantity and type of renewable energy to meet customer
demand and marketing claims.
