TerraPass Now Offering Green‑e Climate Certified Carbon Offsets
San Francisco, CA (July 25, 2013)—Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) today announced that San Francisco, CA–based TerraPass is now offering a Green‑e® Climate certified carbon offset product to its customers. The "TerraPass Green‑e Climate Certified Carbon Offsets" product is certified by Green‑e Climate, the leading independent certification program for greenhouse gas emission reductions (carbon offsets) sold in the retail market. The new product is sourced from wind power located in Oklahoma, and landfill gas capture projects in Pennsylvania and Illinois.
"We are very excited to welcome TerraPass to the program" said Todd Jones, manager of Green‑e Climate. "They have always been a leading company in the market, and Green‑e Climate certification is a demonstration of their commitment to quality assurance and consumer protection. By offering certified carbon offsets sourced from U.S.–based wind energy and landfill gas capture, the company is offering a product that helps build and support these crucial emissions reductions right here at home."
"TerraPass is thrilled to provide Green‑e Climate Carbon Offsets to customers, and we are pleased CRS has taken a leadership position with the establishment of the Green‑e Climate program. We are happy to be a pioneer with CRS in establishing the highest marketing practices in the industry," said TerraPass CEO Erin Craig.
The offsets are sourced from landfill gas capture projects and wind power plants located in communities around the United States, and are registered with and verified by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), an independent nonprofit organization. By purchasing these offsets, businesses and consumers can be confident that they are aiding the development of projects that wouldn't have otherwise been built, leading to real reductions in emissions from fossil-fuel electricity generation and landfills in the U.S.
Green‑e Climate is an independent certification and consumer-protection program requiring that carbon offsets include greenhouse gas emission reductions that have been verified according to strict project-level certification programs that ensure the emissions reductions have taken place, are permanent, and come from projects that would not have happened under a "business as usual" scenario. Green‑e Climate also requires that reductions have been correctly and exclusively delivered as advertised, based on a yearly audit of a seller's supply and sales. Sellers of certified offsets must also provide customers with a product content label that explains where the reductions were sourced from, including the locations and types of projects, along with other important disclosures.
