SAN FRANCISCO, CA
(June 13, 2006)-- The Center
for Resource Solutions (CRS) announced today that Dr. Cathleen
Fogel will join the CRS team for the period of one year as a Switzer
Leadership Fellow to work on carbon policy issues.
Dr. Fogel’s work
will help grow the voluntary renewable energy market and support
its inclusion in carbon policy frameworks.

“CRS works to build a robust renewable energy
market by increasing demand and supply of renewable resources as an
important tool in climate change mitigation. Our networking approach
relies on collaborative efforts and partnerships with a host of stakeholders
-- from businesses and government agencies to environmental NGOs --
to address major, long-term energy and environmental problems. We are
extremely pleased to have Dr. Fogel’s experience and expertise
at the table as we go more in depth in our exploration of renewable
energy’s role in carbon policy,” said Dr. Jan Hamrin, CRS
President.
Dr. Fogel’s extensive experience working on
environmental issues spans an impressive range of topics. Most recently,
Dr. Fogel worked with the Climate Group on projects that contribute
directly to transforming energy and greenhouse gas emission patterns
in California. The reports Dr. Fogel co-wrote, California, Low Carbon
Leader and California: Business and Job Growth Opportunities
from Climate Protection, stand to rally California business support
for greenhouse gas emission reductions in the state.
Dr. Fogel received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa
Cruz in June of 2003. Among the many publications she has authored are:
"The Local, the Global and the Kyoto Protocol," in Earthly
Politics, Worldly Knowledge: Local and Global in Environmental Governance
(MIT Press, Marybeth Long-Martello and Sheila Jasanoff, eds., 2004),
and “Biotic Carbon Sequestration and the Kyoto Protocol: The Construction
of
Global Knowledge for Policy and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change,” in International Environmental Agreements: Politics,
Law and Economics, (Kluwer Academic Publishers, NL published in
June, 2005).
In 1999, Dr. Fogel participated as a Fellow in the
Global Environmental Assessment (GEA) Project at Harvard University,
and in 1998, she contributed to "Using Science in Habitat Conservation
Plans under the Endangered Species Act," with the National Center
for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis Habitat Conservation Plans Working
Group.
Prior to her graduate studies, Dr. Fogel worked as
a policy analyst and lobbyist on hazardous wastes and pesticides, and
forest conservation issues for the Sierra Club and Greenpeace International
(in Amsterdam). She also campaigned to reform World Bank environmental
policies with the National Wildlife Federation, and served as advisor
on forest and climate change policies to the Climate Action Network
and Ozone Action. She received a dual B.A. from the University of Colorado
in 1988, in International Relations and Spanish Literature, and has
traveled widely in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
The Leadership Grant Program of the Robert &
Patricia Switzer Foundation makes Dr. Fogel’s work at CRS possible.

About
the Center for Resource Solutions
Since 1997, the Center for Resource Solutions
(CRS), a national nonprofit organization, has worked to make it easier
for people and organizations to use renewable energy. CRS designs and
operates national and international programs that support the increased
