<img src="data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20200%200'%3E%3C/svg%3E" alt="image" border="1" align="left" width="200" data-lazy-src="http://www.resource-solutions.org/images/releases/2015/EPA-CPP.jpg"><noscript><img src="http://www.resource-solutions.org/images/releases/2015/EPA-CPP.jpg" alt="image" border="1" align="left" width="200"></noscript>The U.S. EPA released the final <a href="http://www2.epa.gov/cleanpowerplan">Clean Power Plan (CPP)</a>, greenhouse gas regulations for existing power plants under section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act, on August 3. This landmark regulation will drive the transformation of the U.S. electricity sector to cleaner, more sustainable fuel sources. Though there is a great deal of flexibility and many different compliance paths available to states and regulated generators, renewable energy will likely play a large role in compliance with the CPP. The final rule also emphasizes trading and market mechanisms across the different options. As states begin to develop their plans for compliance, CRS will be providing analysis and guidance to facilitate cooperation and beneficial interactions with existing renewable energy markets and instruments in order to maximize the benefits and impacts of both the CPP and existing markets on renewable energy development.

Supported by the German agency <a href="https://www.giz.de/">GIZ</a>, Executive Director Jennifer Martin with Todd Jones, Alex Pennock, and Dr. Jan Hamrin have been working with the Mexican <a href="http://www.cre.gob.mx/">Comisión Reguladora De Energía</a> (CRE) on clean energy policy implementation and the development of the Mexican clean energy certificate market. Key findings will be captured in a public report that will be presented later this year.

Verification of 2014 Green-e Climate certified offset sales is nearly complete. Preliminary results show substantial growth (~150% increase) from 2013 to just under 260,000 metric tons, which is the second largest certified sales volume in the history of program.<br /><br />
Green-e Climate certification has been referenced in the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council's (SPLC's) Guidance for Leadership in Sustainable Purchasing Version 1.0 under guidance for appropriate use of carbon offsets, as a "retail level certification [that] provides quality assurances covering the entire chain of custody of the emissions reduction, and requiring the use of robust GHG project standards." The guidance also directs users to the online list of Green-e certified products. <strong>Preliminary results are in!</strong> Preliminary verification results for 2014 reveal 837,000 retail customers purchasing Green-e Energy certified products, an increase of nearly 20% from the previous year. Of that 836,000, 8% are purchasing standalone RECs, 22% are purchasing competitive electricity products, and 70% are purchasing utility green pricing products. Overall retail sales are at an all-time high. Watch for the final 2014 Green-e Verification Report, which will be released this year at <a href="https://www.renewableenergymarkets.com">Renewable Energy Markets 2015</a>, October 18–20 in Washington, D.C.

He co-launched green*light magazine in 2005, an early green consumer guide, and is founder/co-founder of four businesses.
