SAN FRANCISCO, CA (September 8, 2016)—Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) today announced that Blue Spruce Energy Services, a competitive natural gas supplier based out of Lakewood, Colorado, has launched Blue Spruce Green Gas, an innovative new carbon offset natural gas program that matches its customers’ natural gas use with carbon offsets sourced from improved forest management carbon offset projects located in Humboldt County, California.

Blue Spruce Green Gas is available to residential and commercial customers in Northern California. Carbon offsets retired on behalf of customers are used to offset the greenhouse gas emissions from heating, cooking, and other natural gas use.

“Blue Spruce Green Gas is an excellent way for residential and commercial customers to reduce the impact of their daily natural gas use,” said Jennifer Martin, executive director of the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions, which administers the Green-e Climate certification program. “After they’ve taken steps to reduce their fossil fuel use, customers can take advantage of Blue Spruce Green Gas to offset the rest, while helping to ensure well-managed forests in Northern California.”

Blue Spruce Green Gas offers Green-e Climate certified carbon offsets derived from improved forest management of parcels located near the city of Arcata, CA in Humboldt County. Project activities include restoring and improving natural resources, and conservation-based management of forest tracts. The projects are certified by the Climate Action Reserve (CAR).

Green-e Climate is the global retail standard for high-quality carbon offsets, and is an independent, third-party certification for gas offset programs. It ensures that carbon offsets delivered to gas customers are real, permanent and verified. Green-e Climate certifies that the offsets come from projects that are beyond business-as-usual and registered with high-quality project standards. The program verifies gas customers’ exclusive ownership of the reductions as well as correct delivery, protects against double selling, and requires carbon offset disclosure to safeguard for truth in advertising.
