The nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) presented the 2020 Green Power Leadership Awards (GPLAs) today, awarding eight organizations and two individuals for their roles in promoting and expanding the use of clean, renewable energy. The awards were presented during the annual Renewable Energy Markets 2020 conference in the categories of Green Power Market Development, International Green Power Market Development, Leadership in Green Power Education, and Green Power Leader of the Year.
Among the recipients was Miles Braxton, who was presented with a Leadership in Green Power Education award from CRS for his work in addressing the lack of diversity in the renewable energy industry. Creating innovative solutions to environmental problems needs a spectrum of perspectives, one of the keys to innovation. To address this issue, Miles started a speaking series to promote awareness and diversity within the industry, engaging university students and expanding to high schools, with the goal of adding to the diversity of college students who go on to pursue careers in clean energy. While Miles proves to be an emerging leader in clean energy, he recognizes that this dilemma cannot be faced alone.
“I’m honored to be recognized by CRS for my efforts in driving more diverse talent to the clean energy industry,” said Miles. “As a collective, let’s continue to put an emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion in our work because it will only amplify innovation, increase positive community impact, and elevate profit margins in our businesses. You don’t have to be in the C-Suite to make a lasting difference.”
“We are proud this year to honor Miles, who is part of an exceptional group of companies, organizations, and individuals working separately together to advance one of the most important goals of our lifetime—the transition to clean, renewable energy,” said Jennifer Martin, executive director of CRS, which co-presents the annual awards with the U.S. EPA’s Clean Power Partnership. “In a year that underscored the immediacy of the climate challenge, the winners demonstrated the willingness and determination to act today in a way that benefits us all.”
