SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 30, 2013)—Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) today announced that Merrillville, IN–based Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s (NIPSCO’s) new Green Power Program has been certified by Green-e® Energy. NIPSCO joins the growing network of renewable energy providers that offer clean energy options certified by Green-e Energy, North America’s leading certification and verification program for renewable energy.

“We are pleased that residents and businesses in Indiana now have a certified renewable energy option through NIPSCO,” said Alex Pennock, manager of Green-e Energy. “By supporting regional wind generation, subscribers will be sending the message that they prefer locally generated clean power.”

NIPSCO’s new Green Power Program is available to its existing household and business customers, and sources from renewable energy certificates generated from Midwestern sources, including wind power. NIPSCO customers will support currently available renewable resources and growth of the program will aid in the development of new renewable resources in the region.

“We’re proud to offer residents and businesses in northern Indiana the opportunity to purchase renewable energy,” said NIPSCO CEO Jim Stanley. “The Green Power Program is a great complement to NIPSCO’s other customer offerings, which include electric vehicle incentives, energy efficiency programs and options that allow customers to generate their own power from renewable energy sources.”

Green-e Energy is the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in North America, with nearly 300 participating vendors selling over 30 million megawatt hours of renewable electricity and renewable energy certificates in retail transactions in 2011. The program provides independent, third-party certification to ensure that certified renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer-protection standards.

Providers of Green-e Energy certified renewable energy agree to abide by the Green-e Energy Code of Conduct, and meet strict disclosure and truth-in-advertising requirements. All marketers of Green-e Energy certified products undergo an annual third-party verification audit to document that the company purchased or generated enough quantity and type of renewable energy to meet customer demand and marketing claims.
