SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 08, 2005)-- The
Green-e Program of the Center for Resource Solutions announced today
that Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s “BrighterFuture”
Green Tags or renewable energy credits (RECs) are now Green-e certified.
Responding to increasing demand for solar-generated
renewable energy credits, or Green Tags, the Bonneville Environmental
Foundation (BEF) now offers its Green-e certified BrighterFuture™
Green Tag product, featuring a 90 percent, 10 percent blend of new wind
and new photovoltaic solar-generated Green Tags, respectively.
“BEF is strongly committed to supporting both
wind and solar power, which we see as the resources most likely to support
the transition to an energy future based on clean, renewable, and domestic
resources. Although most of our Green Tags are supplied by wind energy,
our customers expressed interest in supporting additional solar resources.
We developed the BrighterFuture product in response to their wishes,”
said Tom Starrs, COO and vice president of sales and marketing for BEF.
"Through the purchase of BEF’s BrighterFuture product, consumers
support the generation of solar and wind resources and contribute to
the reduction of harmful air pollutants," said Kassie Rohrbach,
Green-e Representative for the Western Region. "Green-e certification
means corporate, government and residential customers who buy renewable
energy certificates can be confident they are receiving the environmental
benefits of green power as well as helping to expand the market for
clean renewable energy."
Providers of Green-e certified renewable energy agree to abide by the
Green-e Code of Conduct, and meet Green-e disclosure and truth-in-advertising
requirements. As is the case with all Green-e marketers, the Bonneville
Environmental Foundation will continue to undergo an annual verification
audit to document that the company purchased or generated enough quantity
and type of renewable energy to meet customer demand and marketing claims.
Over one hundred marketers and utilities throughout North America now
offer Green-e certified renewable energy products. Collectively these
suppliers sold 3 billion kWh of certified renewable energy in 2004.
Green-e is the leading renewable energy certification
and verification program in the U.S., and the Green-e logo is the national
symbol for renewable energy excellence. The program provides independent,
third party certification to ensure certified renewable energy meets
strict environmental and consumer protection standards. Green-e’s
verification protects customers from paying for renewable energy that
is “double sold” to other customers or used simultaneously
to meet regulatory mandates. Through the display and recognition of
the Green-e logo, a growing number of consumers are able to easily identify
high quality, certified renewable energy options, as well as everyday
consumer products that are “Made with Certified Renewable Energy.”
About The Bonneville
Environmental Foundation:
The Bonneville Environmental Foundation, a non-profit
organization, was established in 1998 to restore watershed ecosystems
and further the development and use of new renewable energy resources.
Through revenues generated from the sales of green power products, BEF
funds projects that restore damaged watersheds and support new renewable
energy projects from solar, wind and biomass. BEF pioneered the sale
of Green Tags in 2000 and has helped establish national standards for
certification and trading. Created by regional environmental groups
and the Bonneville Power Administration, the Foundation operates collaboratively
with but independent of both. More information is available on the web
at: www.b-e-f.org.
About Green-e and
the
Center for Resource Solutions
Launched in 1997, The Green-e Renewable Energy
Certification Program is the leading voluntary certification and verification
program that sets standards for renewable electricity-based products
in three markets for renewable energy: restructured, regulated, and
tradable renewable certificates. To learn more about certified renewable
energy available throughout North America, visit: www.green-e.org,
or call 1-888-63-GREEN.
Green-e is a program of the Center for Resource
Solutions (CRS), a national nonprofit organization that makes it easier
for people and organizations to use renewable energy. CRS designs and
operates national and international programs that support the increased
supply and use of renewable energy resources such as wind, solar, biomass,
geothermal and low-impact hydroelectric power. To learn more about CRS,
